Omerta Movie Review Rajkummar Raos Chilling Performance Makes This Hansal Mehta Film Streaming on Zee5 a Disturbing Watch

Omerta is not an easy watch. Rajkummar Rao plays Omar Saeed Sheikh the terrorist behind Daniel Pearls kidnapping and murder and he completely disappears into the role. Its uncomfortable and its supposed to be.

Hansal Mehta doesnt try to explain or justify anything. The film presents Sheikh as he was – educated privileged and absolutely convinced of his righteousness. Theres no redemption arc. No moment of doubt. Just a portrait of radicalization that refuses to offer easy answers.

Hindustan Times praised Raos transformation calling it one of his most committed performances.

The film originally released in 2018 but is now streaming on Zee5 which means a whole new audience will discover it. Fair warning though this isnt casual viewing. You need to be in the right headspace.

Streaming platforms give second lives to films that might have slipped under the radar during theatrical release.

Mehtas documentary style adds to the unease. This feels like something that actually happened because it did. The real Omar Saeed Sheikh is still alive in a Pakistani prison awaiting execution that may never come.

Rao gained weight grew a beard and adopted mannerisms that reportedly made even his co-stars uncomfortable on set. Method acting at its most intense.

If youre looking for entertainment look elsewhere. If you want to understand how someone becomes capable of monstrous acts this is difficult essential viewing.

Now streaming on Zee5
