Pierce Brosnan’s $100 Million Malibu Home Can’t Find a Buyer

So Pierce Brosnan is trying to sell his Malibu mansion for $100 million and… nobody’s buying. Which honestly tracks, because even in the bonkers world of celebrity real estate, that’s a LOT of zeros.

Let me paint you a picture of what that money gets you.

The property is called “Orchid House” (of course it has a name) and it sits on over an acre of Broad Beach with 117 feet of oceanfront. That’s like… having your own private slice of the California coastline. The main house is nearly 13,000 square feet with five bedrooms and—wait for it—fourteen bathrooms. Fourteen! I genuinely don’t understand what you do with fourteen bathrooms. Is there a bathroom emergency I don’t know about?

Brosnan and his wife Keely bought the land back in 2000 for around $7.35 million, which seems like pocket change now. They tore down the existing ranch house and spent the next decade building their dream home, inspired by their time in Thailand filming “Tomorrow Never Dies.” So the whole vibe is very Southeast Asian meets Malibu beach house. Steep gabled roofs, teak everything, orchids everywhere (hence the name).

Modern luxury home interior

The amenities are exactly what you’d expect from a James Bond actor’s house. Home theater with tiered seating and a full bar. Mirrored gym. Sauna, steam room, Japanese soaking tub, and cold plunge. A recording studio (because why not). Saltwater infinity pool overlooking the Pacific. Multiple outdoor living areas with windbreaks for those coastal breezes.

It’s genuinely stunning. I’m not gonna pretend otherwise.

But here’s the thing about $100 million homes: the buyer pool is basically like twelve people on the planet, and they all already have beach houses. The Wall Street Journal reported that even in Malibu’s ultra-luxury market, homes rarely actually sell at this price point. They sit. They take price cuts. Sometimes they just quietly come off the market.

The timing isn’t great either. The Brosnans listed this property right after the Woolsey Fire tore through Malibu in 2018 and damaged parts of the home. They’ve since repaired everything, but “our house survived a massive wildfire” isn’t exactly the selling point you want to lead with.

And look, I know we’re supposed to feel sympathy for the obscenely wealthy when their obscenely expensive real estate doesn’t sell, but… I can’t quite get there. Pierce Brosnan was James Bond in four movies. He made bank. He also owns another property in Hawaii that he reportedly spends most of his time at now. The man is fine.

What’s actually interesting here is what it says about the luxury real estate market. Even with all the money sloshing around Silicon Valley and Hollywood, there’s a ceiling to what people will pay for a single-family home. At some point, even billionaires look at the price tag and go “ehh, I could just buy three $30 million homes instead.”

Plus, Broad Beach has its own issues. Erosion is eating away at the coastline. The homes there require constant maintenance and the beach itself is slowly disappearing. Climate change isn’t great for oceanfront property values, it turns out.

For now, Orchid House remains unsold. Brosnan says he loves Malibu and it “has his heart,” which is a nice thing to say about a place you’re actively trying to leave for $100 million.

Maybe one of those fourteen bathrooms will finally close the deal.
