Ms Marvel: Mohan Kapur Officially Cast As Kamala Khan’s Father in Disney+ Show, Know Everything About the Indian Actor
Okay so Marvel just dropped a bunch of footage from their upcoming Disney+ shows and I’m trying not to scream??? Because we finally got confirmation that Bollywood actor Mohan Kapur is playing Yusuf Khan — aka Kamala Khan’s dad — in Ms. Marvel and I have FEELINGS about this casting.
If you dont know Mohan Kapur (and honestly why would most Americans), hes been in like 30+ Bollywood films and a bunch of TV shows. You might recognize him from Sadak 2 on Disney+ Hotstar, or from various TV serials like Zindagi Badal Sakta Hai Hadsaa. Hes kind of a big deal in India even though he usually does supporting roles.
But heres the thing that made me lose my mind a little — Kapur has actually dubbed for major Hollywood actors in Hindi releases. Like he’s done voice work for Dwayne Johnson, Tom Hardy, Nicolas Cage, AND (this is the part that kills me) he dubbed Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange in all his MCU appearances. And now hes IN the MCU. Playing Kamala’s dad. The simulation is glitching.

In the comics, Yusuf Khan is this really warm supportive dad who immigrated from Pakistan with his family. Hes more understanding of Kamala than her mom Muneeba, which creates this nice dynamic. Marvel’s character page describes him as the heart of the Khan family basically.
The show stars newcomer Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (she found out about the casting call from her aunt?? iconic), along with a whole ensemble including Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba, Saagar Shaikh as Kamala’s brother Aamir, and Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli.
Ms. Marvel is being directed by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (who has TWO Oscars btw), with Bisha K. Ali as head writer. The diversity behind the camera is genuinely exciting — this isnt just representation on screen, its representation in the creative decisions.
Kapur posted about the casting on Twitter and literally thanked the person who got him started in entertainment. Hes apparently overwhelmed to be part of a Marvel project which, same dude. Same.
No release date yet but Ms. Marvel is expected sometime in 2021 on Disney+. And then Kamala is supposed to appear in Captain Marvel 2 so… yeah this is happening. Marvel’s first Muslim superhero is really happening.
(I’m not crying youre crying)
