Miamis King of Tape Hits NYC Swimsuit Models Strut in Strategically Placed Adhesive

Okay this is… a lot. But lets talk about it because its definitely a thing happening in fashion right now.

The Black Tape Project – sometimes called body taping or tape art – has made its way from Miami swim week to New York City. The concept is exactly what it sounds like: models wear outfits made entirely of strategically placed adhesive tape. Nothing else. Just tape.

Is it fashion? Is it art? Is it just an excuse to have nearly naked people walking around? Yes probably all three depending on who you ask.

The founder of the Black Tape Project presents it as body-positive art celebrating diverse body types. And to be fair the models come in different shapes and sizes which is more than traditional swimwear brands can usually claim. The tape designs are genuinely intricate and creative.

But lets be real about what we’re looking at here. This isnt subtle. The whole point is to show as much body as possible while technically covering the legal minimums. Its provocative by design.

Fashion has always pushed boundaries around skin and sexuality. What makes tape different from a micro bikini or a see-through dress? Maybe nothing. Maybe the deliberate hand-applied nature of it adds an artistic element that mass-produced swimwear lacks.

The NYC event drew crowds and attention which is probably the whole point. In a content-saturated world being interesting enough to photograph is its own form of success. People are definitely photographing this.

Is it for everyone? Obviously not. Is it the future of fashion? Probably also not. But its definitely a moment and sometimes moments are just… moments. Weird beautiful uncomfortable moments.

Fashion has done stranger things. Though I struggle to think of exactly what right now.
