Florida Girl Arrested for Falsely Reporting Friend Was Kidnapped in YouTube Challenge

phone social media youtube teens arrest

A Florida girl was arrested for filing a false kidnapping report. The reason? A YouTube challenge. Because apparently social media clout is worth a criminal record now.

The teen called 911 claiming her friend had been kidnapped. Police launched a full response. Resources were deployed. And it was all for content.

Local 10 News covered the arrest and the stunned reaction from police.

False reports waste emergency resources and can have real consequences. While cops were responding to a fake kidnapping real emergencies might have been delayed.

Social media challenges have pushed kids toward increasingly dangerous and illegal behavior. This is just the latest example.

The friend was reportedly in on it which makes both of them culpable. Conspiracy to file false reports isnt the kind of thing that looks good on college applications.

Police are not amused. They made that very clear in their statement. Pranks involving emergency services are treated as crimes because they should be.

The parents are probably having a very unpleasant conversation with their daughter right now. The lawyer bills alone will be a wake up call.
