Battlefield Beat Call of Duty in 2025 and I Still Cant Believe It

If you told me two years ago that Battlefield would outsell Call of Duty I would have laughed in your face. After 2042? After the specialists nobody asked for and the empty maps and the “dont be sad this is just how it works out sometimes” meme? No way. Franchise was cooked. Done. Over.
And yet.
Circana data just confirmed Battlefield 6 is the best selling game of 2025 in the US. Not best selling shooter. Best selling GAME. Period. It topped Xbox and PC charts for the year. Sits at number two on PlayStation behind only NBA 2K26. First month sales already passed Battlefield 1s ENTIRE LIFETIME numbers. And BF1 was the franchise record holder for almost a decade.
Seven million copies in three days. The biggest launch month for any game since Modern Warfare 2 back in 2022. Let that sink in.
How did this happen? Honestly I think DICE just listened for once. After 2042 got absolutely roasted they went back to basics. Classes are back properly. Maps are designed for actual Battlefield gameplay instead of being empty wastelands. Destruction matters again. The gunplay feels like old school Battlefield. BF3 and BF4 vibes.
Campaign being back helps too. 2042 ditching single player was a mistake and they corrected it. Drive tanks across the Sahara. Storm Gibraltar beaches. Defend New York. Its not groundbreaking storytelling but its solid Battlefield and people missed having it.
Timing was perfect. Black Ops 7 launched into absolute disaster – AI art controversy, 1.7 user score on metacritic, Steam numbers that made people wonder if the franchise was dying. Battlefield showed up polished and mostly working while CoD was getting compared to Skibidi Toilet. You cant buy marketing like that.

Now look its not perfect. Season 1 brought that RedSec battle royale mode and the Steam reviews dipped from people complaining about “unrealistic” skins and battle pass stuff. Its still a $70 game with microtransactions which annoys people. The live service stuff has fans nervous.
But compared to what CoD delivered this year? Night and day. The bar was on the floor and DICE still cleared it by a mile. EAs website literally says “Thank you for making Battlefield 6 the best-selling shooter game of the year” now. When was the last time EA could brag about beating Call of Duty? The rivalry actually feels competitive again.
Ive been playing pretty regularly since launch. The new Eastwood map is genuinely one of the best Battlefield maps in years. Getting into conquest matches that feel like actual Battlefield instead of whatever 2042 was trying to be. Its just good.
DICE proved they can still do this when they focus on what Battlefield should be. Now lets see if they can maintain it.
Welcome back indeed.
