Dustin Poirier Reveals Massive New Deal With the UFC
The Diamond just got paid.
Dustin Poirier revealed in a recent interview that hes signed a massive new eight-fight deal with the UFC. Eight fights. Thats a serious commitment from both sides and signals just how valuable Poirier has become to the promotion.
This news comes right before his highly anticipated rematch with Conor McGregor at UFC 257. The first time these two fought back in 2014 McGregor knocked Poirier out in the first round. But a lot has changed since then. Poirier has evolved into one of the most complete fighters in the lightweight division.
The new contract shows the UFC believes in Poiriers drawing power. After his wars with Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, and Dan Hooker hes proven he can headline cards and deliver entertainment. Win or lose Poirier fights are must-see TV.
“I just signed an eight-fight contract with the UFC,” Poirier said. “My plan is to fight eight more times. I want to finish this contract Im on, fight eight more times. Then well see where were at there.”
Eight fights at Poiriers level means probably four or five more years of elite competition. Thats significant for a guy who started his UFC career back in 2011. Hes been in some absolute wars and the fact that hes still performing at this level speaks to his preparation and durability.
The McGregor rematch is the first fight on this new deal. If Poirier can get revenge for that 2014 loss it would change everything. A win over McGregor puts him right back in title contention and probably sets up another massive payday down the road.
For now Poiriers focus is on January 23rd. But knowing hes got a long term deal locked in has to provide some peace of mind. The Diamond can fight without worrying about his future. Just focus on the next challenge.
Respect to the grind.
