2 Rottweilers Used Jogger Like a Chew Toy in St Charles Attack Before a CCL Holder Had Dad Bring Him His Gun He Fatally Shot 1 Dog the 2nd Was Later Euthanized
Im gonna be straight with you. This story is hard to read and harder to write.
A jogger in St Charles got absolutely mauled by two Rottweilers while out for a morning run. The attack was so severe witnesses described the dogs using her like a chew toy. A concealed carry license holder had to have his father bring him his gun to stop the attack.
He shot and killed one of the dogs. The second was later euthanized by authorities.
According to the Kane County Sheriffs office the victim suffered catastrophic injuries. Were talking about the kind of damage that requires multiple surgeries and months of recovery if shes lucky. Dog attacks at this level of severity can be life altering in ways most people dont fully understand until theyve seen one.
The CCL holder who intervened was himself attacked by the dogs before he could get the firearm. They chased him and caused him to fall down a flight of stairs. He sustained bites to multiple parts of his body before finally being able to put one of the animals down.
Look. I dont like writing about dog attacks because the conversation always goes sideways. But this happened. A woman almost died.
The dogs reportedly escaped from their owners property. How exactly they got out is still under investigation. But two large aggressive dogs loose in a residential area is a nightmare scenario and this is exactly why.
These kinds of heroic interventions during dog attacks are unfortunately more common than people realize. Sometimes theres a good samaritan nearby. Sometimes there isnt.
What bothers me most about stories like this is how preventable they are. Secure your dogs. Know their temperament. If you have large powerful breeds understand the responsibility that comes with that.
The man who shot the dog hasnt been charged with anything. Self defense and defense of others is pretty clear cut when someones being torn apart in front of you.
The victim was transported to a local hospital. No update on her condition has been released.
