WATCH: Tony Ferguson Drops Video Attacking Conor McGregor and His Proper Twelve Whisky Brand

Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson haven’t really gotten along. However, Conor hasn’t made many mentions towards Ferguson during his run atop the lightweight division. While they have been scheduled to face each other in the past, no official booking was ever made. This led to Ferguson yelling ‘Where you at McNuggets?’ when he became Interim lightweight champion.

While Tony would get hurt and have to vacate the interim belt, he would continue calling out Conor. He fought on the main card of UFC 249 just to send a statement. However, Tony’s fortunes aren’t as bright anymore. He is coming off two consecutive losses which have people questioning his longevity. Nevertheless, he is still coming after ‘The Notorious’.

Releasing a t-shirt with the motif ‘1mprop3r’ to purposely counter Conor’s ‘Proper 12’ is quite smart on tony’s part. However, given where the fighters are at in the division, it seems unlikely that they will be booked. Maybe Conor losing to Dustin Poirier can open it up, but all of it looks unlikely right now.

Conor McGregor: Could he fight against Tony Ferguson?

The important thing to keep in mind with Conor McGregor is that he doesn’t need to fight anyone. He has made a lot of money, and even 10 more UFC fights won’t match up to what he made in one night against Floyd Mayweather. McGregor needs to be genuinely motivated. The title hunt has him motivated, a chance to rematch Khabib has him motivated.

However, would Conor have that motivation if he lost to Poirier? Will he be willing to fight someone like Tony Ferguson to re-stake his claim? Even then, wouldn’t people prefer to watch McGregor against other LWs like Justin Gaethje or Charles Oliveira or perhaps the winner of Dan Hooker vs Michael Chandler?

Tony is a legacy fight for anyone that faces him. However, Conor doesn’t have that same immediate need. Unless ‘El Cucuy’ bounces back and Conor falls a step below, this fight looks unlikely.
