Toyota Created a Home Helper Robot

The Development Process of the Robot

The first set of robots by Toyota was rolled out in 2011. After that, they placed helpers in homes and medical facilities, seeking feedback from researchers, health care workers, and patients. Firstly, in-home trials were conducted on people with limb disabilities. The first tests were done in liaison with the Foundation for Yokohama Rehabilitation Service. After this, a robot prototype was revealed in 2012 as a part of the Toyota Partner Robot series, which involved some robots previously unveiled at the International Home Care and Rehabilitation Show in Tokyo.

This forerunner was designed in connection to the Japan Service Dog Association. The primary role of the Service Dog Association was to inform Toyota about the main desires and needs of people with limb disabilities.
