Google News App is chewing up a huge amount of data. This bug has been a bit annoying for its users.
As reported by The Verge, Android users have been complaining about this issue since May, with the app downloading gigabytes of mobile data in the background mysteriously.
A Google community manager also acknowledged the problem in the month of September, after unhappy users reported data usage as high as 24GB. The data usage resulted in excess charges that amounted to hundreds of dollars.
Some users also said that they had the Google News app set to “download via Wi-Fi only”. Users have switched off background data for the app to help alleviate the problem.
The company is yet to come up with a fix.
A Google spokesperson said that the company apologizes for the inconvenience the issue has caused to the users and they are looking to rectify the issue soon.
