Domingo German adamant about Yankees comeback: 'It isn't over'

Domingo German is channeling an iconic Yankee to signal what he hopes will be an eventual return to the franchise.

After a chaotic few days in July in which his career was over and then it wasn’t, German appears to be back working toward pitching for the Yankees again in the future.

“It isn’t over till it’s over – Yogi,” German wrote in a caption of an Instagram post Saturday that showed him running on a treadmill at a gym in Tampa Bay, Fla., his comment an apparent ode to Yankees great Yogi Berra, who coined the phrase.

German is currently serving the remaining 63 games of a suspension he was tagged with last year for violating the league’s domestic violence policy. The 28-year-old right-hander put his baseball future in doubt in July with an Instagram post in Spanish that translated to: “I left baseball. Thanks my people.’’

By the next day, he had deleted the post and tried to set the record straight in another Instagram post.

“Baseball is my life and I promise I am not walking away,’’ he wrote on July 19.

“To my teammates, the Yankees organization and our fans, I am very sorry for the unsettling post [Friday] night,” German added. “This past year has been very tough for my family and myself, for which I take full responsibility. Not being with my teammates while they get ready for the season, knowing that I have let them down, has taken a toll on me and [Friday] night I let my emotions get the best of me.”

German went 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA last year before his season ended in September following an incident with the mother of his children. MLB handed down an 81-game suspension, which included 18 games that he served last fall. The league previously said he would be eligible to play at the beginning of the 2021 season.
