Calvin Kattar Cleared by the UFC to Fight on January 16th

The UFC returns to live-action next week. The first of three events on a triple header at fight Island sees Calvin Kattar take on Max Holloway. The fight between the two men will have massive implications on the featherweight title picture. Max Holloway will be aiming to get back his title whereas ‘The Boston Finisher’ will be aiming to get his first title shot in the promotion.

The fight between the two men will be a striker’s delight, as both men are considered among the best strikers at 145 pounds. However, in order to get to the fight, there are a few hurdles that both men have to overcome before they can step into the octagon. The first and the most important one in today’s day and age is to test negative.

Tyson Chartier, head coach of the New England MMA cartel tweeted,

“Team Kattar passed covid tests. We off to Abu Dhabi in the AM. #UFCFightIsland7”

Chartier is one of the nominees for coach of the year for having orchestrated the growth of Calvin Kattar and Rob Font, among others.

The UFC started hosting fights on Fight Island so that International fighters would be able to fight. The UFC has one of the lowest positive testing rate of sports in the US.

This is because of the strict protocols that have been put in place so that the fights can go ahead with minimal infections. Due to which they test fighters multiple times before they are allowed to get into the octagon.

‘The Boston Finisher’ will be hoping to take a huge step towards the title shot if he can beat a former champion in Max Holloway.

Holloway, on the other hand, has not lost three consecutive fights in his career. He will be hoping to bounce back from two consecutive losses against the champion Alexander Volkanovski.
