Bianca Andreescu to Sit Out Remainder of the 2020 Season As Injury Woes Continues

Bianca Andreescu to Follow Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka's Schedule for French Open 2020

The French Open suffered another loss as Bianca Andreescu pulled out of the tournament. With just a few days left before Roland Garros begins, the organizers will have to replace Andreescu with another wildcard entrant. This after other ranked players like Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka had withdrawn from the event.

The 20-year-old Canadian took to Twitter to announce her decision to skip the tournament. She is determined to return stronger and start competing from 2021. It is not only the French Open she’s pulling out of, but the remainder of the season as a whole.

“I have come to the difficult decision to skip the clay-court swing this year and will be taking the remainder of the season off to focus on my health and training. As hard as it goes to come to this conclusion, I have so much to look forward to in 2021, including the Olympics: I want to use this time to focus on my game so I can come back stronger and better than ever.

“As always, your encouraging words and support meant the world to me and I look forward to getting back on the court and competing for Canada next year,” read the tweet.

Bianca Andreescu looks forward to a rejuvenated return

Suffering a knee injury in the 2019 WTA Finals, Andreescu struggled for the entire 2020 season. She had to pull out of the Australian Open 2020 due to the injury.

The absence of world number 6 will dishearten the fans. Her withdrawal will have a major impact on the French Open, as Bianca would have been among the star attractions at the event.

Her decision to take the season off is rather a good one for herself. She is a promising talent and has a lot more years left. It’s better she takes the time off now and focuses on her recovery rather than subject her body to risks.

Her absence will be a void in the tournament, although her comeback will be an event to watch out for in 2021.
